Questions about ArpThe most important structures built before 1980 in Arp were banks, churches, and schools. Speaking of which, the old school was located were the New Gym is now. There weren’t many people in Arp in the early 1900’s, roughly about 500 people. The school was on huge two-story building. There may have been some diseases, but no major outbreaks causing numerous deaths. The Great Depression had little or no affect in Arp. During this period, Arp had major oil booms. As the depression hit, so did the oil gushers. Arp wasn’t affected at all. Our bank was built in 1911. When the bank opened, the first day deposits were between $5,500 to $5,600. Arp had two restaurants before 1930, during and before as high as eight did, and then back down. Arnold’s Garage and C R Wilson garage are the oldest, now standing buildings. Churches, banks, and the school were the most important buildings back then and now. The Arp Movie Theater was very grand "back in the day", but now it is very neglected. American Legion Hall was where Election Day was held. "Arpians" celebrated Election Day by gathering in town and writing. There has never been any presidents or governors that is known of. Arp has changed a great deal over the years, as it will in the future.
