On May 28, 1974 at 8PM, Arp had a graduating class of 39 students. There were only 3 students in National Honor Society.
In the year of May 26, 2000 there will be 52 graduating seniors. There are 8 students in National Honor Society, which is a large increase from 1974.
The National Honor Society was founded in 1921 to create an organization that would recognize and encourage academic achievement while developing other characteristics essential to citizens in democracy. The ideals of scholarship, character, service, and leadership remain as relevant today as they were in 1921.
Admission to the National Honor Society organization is the greatest honor that can come to a high school student. It stands for excellence of achievement not only in one field, but also in every field of endeavor. Scholarship alone will not admit a student to the National honor Society. To Scholarship must be added Service, Leadership, and Character. A student my therefore make the highest grades and still not be admitted to the NHS if he does not participate for the betterment of his school or if he shows traits of character that are undesirable. Students who have attained this high standard deserve the highest praise and congratulations for their excellence while in high school.
