Tips for Seniors!

College Planning Calendar

September:

  1. Review your career plans and decide what 3 – 4 colleges are best for you.
  2. Visit these colleges in person, on-line or via mail (to request information).
  3. Get admissions information for colleges in which you are interested (to insure that you are taking the courses needed and know what tests are required).
  4. Based on your college choices, register for the necessary exam or exams:  ACT, SAT, THEA.   Know that it takes about six weeks for these testing agencies to process and submit them to colleges.
  5. Check to see if your college uses a Common Application; if so, be sure to make copies.
  6. Athletes should complete the NCAA Clearinghouse form on- line.
  7. Begin asking teachers, administrators and employers for letters of recommendations to include with your admissions and/or scholarship applications.
  8. Update your resume on OCN, the On-line College Network.

Senior Applications Day

An excellent way to organize the college preparation process is to focus on completing at least one item for college admissions per week.  Try to designate Thursday as SENIOR APP’S DAY or SENIOR APPLICATIONS DAY.  Complete for mailing a college application, a scholarship application or an essay; schedule a college visit or an interview.

KEEP COPIES OF ALL FORMS THAT YOU SUBMIT.

Maintain a folder for:

  • each college application mailed
  • each scholarship application mailed

Assignment for the week:  one something to mail for my college admissions in Fall 2005.
