4-H Opportunity Scholarships

Eligibility:

1.      4-H member;

2.      selection based on academics, leadership, character, 4-H activities.

Amount:  $1,500 to $15,000

APS Corporate-Sponsored Scholarships (for Minority Undergraduate Students who Major in

Physics)

Eligibility: 

1.      any high school senior who is a racial minority and U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident; and

2.      plans to major in physics; and

3.      SAT or ACT score.

Amount:  NA

American Legion Auxiliary (Texas) Scholarships

Eligibility:

1.      resident of Texas; and

2.      child of veteran of WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama or Persian Gulf.

Amount  $500

Deadline:  February 1

 

Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Scholarship

Eligibility:

          1.    African American, Hispanic American, American India/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander      

                     American

2.      citizen/legal permanent resident or national of the US;

            3.    cumulative GPA of 3.3.on 4.0 scale;

4.    will be entering a US accredited college or university as a full time, degree-seeking freshman       

       in the fall;

5.      demonstrated leadership skills via community service, extracurricular activities, etc. ;and

6.      eligible for Pell Grant (determined by FAFSA).

Amount:  to be determined by Gates MS on basis of financial need

Mathematics Department Scholarships

Texas A & M University

Eligibility:

1.      high school senior who plans to major in mathematics; and

2.      initial college mathematics course should be Calculus 1 or higher.

Amount:  $500 - $10,000

College STEPS Scholarship Program

Wells Fargo

Purpose:   to provide any information for planning for college; to help make transition for high school to

          college easier

Eligibility:

1.      high school senior; and

2.      sign up and automatically register for scholarship

Amount:  $1,000 (100 awarded)

Teens Serving Texas Recognition Program

Eligibility:

1.      graduating senior;

2.      cumulative GPA of 3.0+;

3.      pursuing Recommended or Distinguished Graduation Plans;

4.      submit application packet by specified deadline (application form, criterion paragraph, goals paragraph, two reference letters, official transcript)

Amount:  $500

Deadline:  February 10

 

Schreiner Scholars Program

Eligibility:

1.      1000+ SAT or 24+ ACT; and

2.      3.5+ GPA

Amount:  $9,000 (renewable)

Cherokee County Electric Cooperative

Eligibility:

1.      must be a high school senior ;

2.      a family member of an active member of CCECA; and

3.      completed application.

Amount:  $1,000 (7 awards)

EF Educational Tours

Purpose:  to provide students with culturally enriching, international travel opportunity

Eligibility:

1.      high school senior;

2.      brief essay in response to, “Travel is inherently educational, but knowledge and global understanding begin at home.  How have your experiences and actions in your own community demonstrated an ability to live as a Global Citizen?”

Amount:   $1,000 toward college tuition and a 10-day expenses-paid educational tour of Europe

Deadline:  February 15

 

 

2003 All-USA high School Academic Team

Eligibility:

1.      high school senior or junior

2.      leadership ability and experience

3.      on Recommended or Distinguished graduation program; and

4.      a 500-word essay describing specific talent and/or academic ability

Amount:  $2,500

Deadline:  February 22

 

East Texas Baylor Club

Eligibility:

1.      high school seniors from Smith and surrounding counties;

2.      evaluation on academic achievement (1/3 basis);;

3.      evaluation of community and church involvement and service; and

4.      evaluation of proved financial need.

Amount:  $600 per semester (for 8 semesters)

Deadline:   February 28

 

Freshman Scholarship Program

Tyler Junior College

Eligibility:

1.      completed scholarship and admissions application;

2.      ACT or SAT test score; and

3.      official high school transcript.

Amount:  varies

East Texas Communities Foundation

· Citizens 1st Bank Scholarship

          Eligibility:

`        1.   .child of employees of Texas Department of Mental Health/Retardation;

      Texas Department of Criminal Justine or Texas Parks/Wildlife Department;

3.      resident of Smith, Cherokee or Nacogdoches County.

Eligibility: plan to pursue a major in chemistry.

Eligibility:  plan to pursue careers as a medical doctor, veterinarian or biotechnologist

Eligibility:   dependents of Tyler Police Department employees or retirees.

·Arts and Humanities Alliance of Tyler Scholarship

Eligibility:  Smith County students interested in fine or performing arts

· A.D. and Mary Winston Scholarship

Eligibility:  Smith County seniors planning to attend Texas A & M

·Tiffany Lynn Zanolini Memorial Scholarship

Eligibility:  Smith County senior girls who participated in varsity soccer.

·Smith County Baptist Minister Scholarship

Eligibility:  Smith County dependent children of ordained minister serving congregations

                    that are members of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.

Dixie Boys Baseball Scholarship

Eligibility:

1.      high school senior;

2.      participated in a Dixie Boys, Dixie Pre-Majors or Dixie Majors franchised program; and

3.      citizenship, scholarship and financial need are factors used to determine awards.

Scholastic All-Stars Team

Eligibility:

1.      high school senior;

            2. a 95+ average; and

            3. involved in at least one varsity athletic sport and community activities.

Amount:  $5,000 per year (for a total of 5 years or completion of Bachelor’s Degree)

Carr P. Collins Scholars Program

Baylor University

Waco, TX

Eligibility:

1.  meet all University requirements for unconditional admission;

2.      be in top quarter of graduating class;

3.      have a minimum score of 125o on SAT or 28 on ACT;

4.      have a completed a balanced college preparatory program; and

5.      be a resident of Texas for at least one year.

Amount:  $3,725 per year (renewable for four years)

Tyler Chapter of the Texas Tech Alumni Association

1.    interest in attending Texas Tech;

            2.    SAT/ACT score;

            3.   GPA;

            4.   class rank;

            5.    response to application questions; and

            6.    three (3) personal recommendation.

 

First Annual Cooperative Education Scholarship Program

Eligibility:

1.      completed application;

2.      official high school transcript;

3.      overall GPA of 3.0+;

4.      a typed one-page resume, highlighting extra curricular activities/work experience; and

5.      accepted by and plan to enroll for 2003-2004 academic year at a National

                     Commission Member College.

Amount:  $500

Computer Science, Engineering and Mathematics Scholarship Program

1.      plan to attend TSU in fall, 2003;

2.      major in computer science, engineering or mathematics;
