Allen Elected Chair Tech Prep Executive Committee |

| The Executive Committee met on August 4 at the
Holiday Inn in Tyler. Dr. Clayton Allen, Chairman of the Department of Technology at The
University of Texas at Tyler, was elected chair. The Committee met again on September 15,
and the final report for 97-98 was presented to the Committee. Activities for the first
and second quarter of this funding period were also presented and discussed. Donna Brown,
Career & Technology Director of Palestine ISD, and Jack Miller, Dean of TSTC –
East Texas Center in Marshall, will become members of the Committee, replacing Ron
McMichael, Superintendent of Longview ISD , and Darrell Nickerson, Superintendent of
Winona ISD. Dr.McMichael accepted a position at Texas Education Agency, and Mr. Nickerson
passed away in October. Darrell will be missed by all of us as he was an advocate for all
the children. His commitment to Tech Prep was evidence by his cheerfully and willingly
agreeing to present Winona’s student portfolio initiative at our March 1999 Business
Conference and by a recent letter to Doris Sharp stating, "I am more than willing to
serve or help you and the consortium any way possible. Please advise me at your earliest
in this regard."
