THE PINE CURTAIN

NOW ON WEBconnect.gif (940 bytes)

Thanks to Ms. Joy Rousseau’s Arp High School Web Masters class, The Pine Curtain is on the web! Last spring the Web Masters class participated in our student-written proposals and requested Tech Prep funds to put our newsletter on the web. Arp was awarded the funds, and our August newsletter is on our web site. The students used their creative computer skills to make the newsletter a fun and informative place to surf. Ms. Rousseau’s class will update the web site with our current newsletter each quarter.

Tech Prep Re-Funded for

Another Five Yearsgraph.gif (352 bytes)

The Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act of 1998 provides a five-year authorization for funding ending in 2003. Tech Prep was re-authorized as a separate program. The re-authorized Tech Prep program includes: a five-year planning cycle; emphasis on educational technology and distance education; inclusion of higher education offering baccalaureate degrees; using work-based learning where appropriate; counselor training, and in service for teachers to allow them to stay current with the needs of business and industry and in the use of technology. Special consideration will be given to consortia that include business, labor, and four-year colleges, that address the needs of school dropouts, that help students meet high academic standards, and that provide education and training in areas of workforce shortages, such as information technology.
