i.e. an Internet Filter Bypass Request PLEASE READ FIRST: Internet Access is RESTRICTED due to the Federal Law know as CIPA (Child Internet Protection Act). If you are unfamiliar with this law, please READ: http://www.arp.sprnet.org/admin/child_act.htm You can request two different types of SITE REVIEWS. Request Type (1) You can request (using the form below) that a site be opened for class use. This request needs to be done ahead of time---before the site is needed by your class. It takes time to reprogram a site for student use. When a site is blocked, the Internet Filter Software- BESS lists the exact reason(s) that the site is being blocked. EXAMPLE:
READ the message! Determine the type of access students should have and for how long. DO NOT request that sites be unblocked for students if the reason it is block has any of the types of ratings listed below unless there are some really good reasons ....these of course....you will supply in the form below!
Warning! If the site you are submitting for student use is an INDEX page upon which ALSO allows students to access any of the above, YOUR request may be denied: Sometime it is NOT the page that is the problem. When we open a site or a page it often then allows students to venture off into other sites that are inappropriate. If opening the site ALSO affords students the opportunities to access inappropriate materials, it is BETTER for you to use the SECOND type of access (see below). Request Type (2) A temporary "by-pass" allows a teacher to momentarily open a site -- instead of requesting a site to be opened for all student use. To USE Temporary
"bypass" CAUTION: Remember that anytime you use the special password:(1) I receive an email as to where you go, what you look at, and how long you were there, and what rating the site has. So please be CAREFUL not to over use OR use inappropriately. (2) Remember that when you use the "bypass" you can also set the time limit. BE VERY CAREFUL to set the time limit at the lowest possible time needed to be at that site. (3) PLEASE MAKE SURE students do NOT have access to this password!! (4) When you USE the password, there is NO FILTER on the Internet!!! So students who are not monitored may access ANYTHING. If you supply a student with a filter bypass, then YOU must MONITOR, MONITOR, MONITOR all Internet activity. TIPS for RESEARCH SUCCESS: (1) For younger children write the correct search string on the board for the students to use
(2) Make sure YOU have gone there FIRST to see that nothing inappropriate is there (3) If you need to use your BESS password, use it, but don’t walk away from the machine that has the bypass…ANYTHING could come up on the screen. (4) A lot of times you will get a warning…for instance, you might be researching "whales" and "dorsal fins"....and you get a BESS STOP sign. This might be because there are “mating” picture of animals…you NEVER know…and sometimes you will find NOTHING offensive at all. (5) Use your BESS bypass password to check out links and then YOU will need to approve them for student eyes or not. For Arp ISD ONLY: USE THE FOLLOWING FORM FOR EITHER REQUEST TYPE (1) OR TYPE (2) SITE REVIEW
