Clean up you temp folder before you attempt this project.

Make sure you have Winzip on your computer. It is also in the productivity folder on //Senio01 (Pull the entire Winzip folder to your desktop)

Java Perk is located at: \\Senior01\WIZ_lab\SOFTWARE\JavaPerk

  • Pull "javapk" file to your desktop….it is a Zip file
  • Double Click on it
  • Use the Extract feature in Winzip to unzip the files to the following directory: C:/temp
  • Go to your Temp Folder….. click on Setup in the Temp folder….accept all the defaults. When completed you will find Perk under
    • Start
    • Programs
    • J-Perk 5.01
  • Create a project folder on your C: or D: drive
  • Pull all the images you intend to use into this folder
  • Run the J-Perk program
  • Click on the first Image Effects Icon
  • Select 3 images from your project folder
  • Add each of your project folder images by clicking on the Add Image to List Button…..see below.

 

 Note: You will not be able to use Animated Gifs as part of these images.

  • Highlight the image in the first column. Right mouse click in the Pause column and click on the Set Properties Button.
  • Supply the information in the following boxes:

You do not need to use this animation as a link right now….but you might like to do so later when you become more familiar with this package by supplying the URL address. You do not need to add sound at this time. But if you do add sound…..remember that the .wav file will need to also be placed in your project folder on your C: or D: drive.

  • Click OK
  • Complete this process with each of your images.
  • Then set the size & color of your background & number of times you wish your animation to loop.
  • Then Click Done

 

 

 

  • Click on Preview to see your first animation attempt. Wait while the program completes the coding and loads it into your browser……..

 

  • Click next to see this screen
  • Click on the Front Page Button & follow the directions
  • You will need to save your HTML file that you are working on….You will also need to copy the project folder with all the images & resources in it to the same folder as this Web page.

  • Return to the main Menu
  • Click through all the other features and learn each of the features. Many examples of what can be done with this software can be found at:

Assignment:

  • Create a java applet using J-Perk for one of your existing Web sites:
    • Use at least three of the main features
    • Use appropriate graphics or photos
    • Applet should load within 6 seconds
    • Applet should represent your Theme or Topic on the Web site
  • Create a tutor for one of the other Features in J-Perk using:
    • This tutor as a model
    • Field Test your Tutor on another student for accuracy and clarity
    • Use more that 1 page for this tutor
    • Design the Tutor with an Index for Each Key Element
    • Place you Tutor in a folder under Webmaster/yourname/JavaTutor
    • Use a theme, color scheme, buttons, and good design.
