ABOUT CATEGORIES:

NOTICE: (1)Since 20% of a grade depends upon Projects and/or Labs this means that ALL teachers will need to allow students to gain critical thinking skills through the use of project-base curriculum. Projects must be monitored over time and given a minimum of 5 to 10 monitoring grades in order that students learn how to propose, research, edit, analyze, organize, synthesize and evaluate in order to address higher-order thinking. Each six weeks teachers will give students the opportunity to work on extended, enriched, high-order thinking, authentic projects. This is required in all subject TEKS and is reflected on the TAKS.

(2)Since 20% of a grade depends upon SCANS and Character education, it is required that teachers instruct students in these concepts. The Arp ISD board of trustees passed a resolution in 1998 that character education would be taught K-12 in all subject areas. SCANS curriculum has been re-addressed in recent research reports in connection with NCLB and is recommended as "best practices" for preparing students to meet the challenges of the real-world. Arp ISD adopted the SCANS curriculum in 1995 and supports its use in all classrooms.

(3)If you FAIL to give ANY grades in the above areas OR you only place 1 grade each in the above categories (except the 6-weeks Benchmark), you create a very unbalanced view of student achievement. At the bottom of this page is the link TEACHERS --THINGS TO CONSIDER IN GRADESPEED! Please read and reflect on the contents of this page.
