Role of Project Director (Debi Crawford)

  • Coordinate all aspects of the program

  • Manage timeline and grant reporting

  • Manage resources and budget

  • Mentor The Offensive Team in building Virtual High School

Role of Defensive Head Coach (Joy Rousseau)

The Defensive Head Coach will facilitate and provide certified Continuing Professional Education to the Defensive Team.  The focus on the training will be research- and best-practice-based delivery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills in a global / virtual setting.  The Defensive Team will learn to  develop their own Web-based training materials for each campus.  Research, problem-solving, technology integration, creativity,  collaboration, project-based instruction, and evaluation  will be essential components of this professional development.

Train Defensive Team in:

  • Higher-order thinking skills through research- and project-base curriculum

  • Vertical Team Alignment (campus wide)

  • Horizontal Team Alignment (between sister schools)

  • Class Server Lesson Creation / Curriculum Calendars

Role of a Defensive Coordinator (26)

  • Build a Training Action Plan for your project

  • Gather tools, knowledge, & skills to carry out Action Plan

  • Work as a Team Member to train Defensive Line Coaches in district

  • Develop evaluation materials for reporting about Action Plan Progress

  • Set up templates that encourage sharing in vertical (campus wide) and horizontal (cross district) modes

  • Become experts in Class Server

  • Serve on one of two evaluation committees.

Role of a Defensive Line Coaches (166)

Campus-level leadership selected by each district to represent a grade level from K-8th.  The group will work as a vertical team within their own campus to coordinate curriculum and tested TEKS.  They will also encourage horizontal lesson sharing with sister schools.  Will receive stipends for summer training and each semester upon successful submission of evaluation materials signed by principals.

  • Two days of training in the summer

  • Work with other campus line coaches to develop goals and objectives for departments

  • Turn in evaluation materials to Defensive Coordinators each six weeks

  • Learn to utilize Class Server for creating and sharing lessons

Role of Principals

  • Consult with Defensive Head Coach on areas for expected growth to be monitored on campus

  • Responsible for verifying the activities of the Defensive Line Coaches

  • Will report on campus using STAR Chart evaluation criteria

Role of The Offensive Team

The Offensive Team is made up of the teachers who will create and teach the courses for the Virtual High School.  Teachers will work in groups of 2 or 3 to develop and then teach courses offered online.  Ten courses will be available in pilot mode by fall, an additional 10 courses will be available by the following fall.  Stipends will be paid for training and as work is completed

  • 3 training days before the end of the 2002-2003 school year -- subs provided (May 7, 15, 22)

  • Become "experts" in the composition and delivery of online courses as well as the technology utilized to maintain the course

  • Develop and teach one online course with a maximum of 40 students -- begin instruction in the fall

Role of Special Teams

This group of four will be selected from the most high needs districts and spread out regionally.  Their mission is to develop strategies for increasing parental involvement.  Their task the first year is to examine existing programs, evaluate successes and how they would work in other situations, and develop a strategic plan for parental involvement.  They will then direct the implementation of their plan during the next two years.
