Subject:  Things to Remember

• Students will be successful -- Give them plenty of verbal affirmation
• Students need VISUAL CUES for EVERYTHING you are teaching them.
  • Say it, show it, demonstrate it
  • Have them teach it
• Students are NOT to be assigned educational skills (writing, reading, research) as PUNISHMENT. 
  • "What is REWARDED, is REPEATED" -- we WANT students to write, read, and research!
• Coordinate all your writing, reading, and research with your department chair! 
  • Make sure you use MLA for research.  Teach it! Show it! Give lots of examples! Monitor, monitor, monitor student progress.
• Follow your Curriculum Calendar -- Each benchmark will be derived from each Curriculum Calendar.
• Give Opportunities for reteach and retest!  We are here to nurture, mentor, and motivate students in knowledge and skills, not to flunk them. 
• EVERYONE is accountable for teaching Character Education -- August & September is HONESTY (Trustworthiness) Month.
• Ask for help if you need it!  We are here to work as a team.

Character Education -- Honesty

During your Honesty Lessons---introduce your students to the Arp Acceptable Use Policies, Let them View the PowerPoint for their age level AND give them the AUP test.

NCLB

• District/Campus Improvement Committee Members for your campus are selected
• Create 3 Tier lists
• Send notification letters home to parents, along with NCLB Brochure
• Evaluate Tier resources and make recommendations to Principal through the Site-base Committee -- See: http://www.arp.sprnet.org/admin/NCLB/NCLB_FlowChart.htm#Improvement
• Assign students into TAKS Weekly, Activity Classes, Tutorials, etc. according to the Person Invervention Plans:
• Log all time with Tier Students (who, when, how long, what materials and objectives are being worked on)
• Using site-base committees plan, implement and evaluation initiatives for Parental Involvement

  TIER I FORM – A student identified by the YEA and Reading Assessment (STAR or TPRI) as being below grade level in a core subject area.

  Þ    TIER II FORM -- A student who has failed part of the TAKS or behind at the six weeks benchmark.

  • TIER II & III Intervention PLAN -- Keeping track of each student and objectives being accelerated

  Þ    TIER III FORM -- A student who, did not pass last year's TAKS, is in danger of not passing this year's TAKS test and/or who is behind at the semester.

     Summary of Process

  Falling below YEA puts a child in Tier 1 (unless it is the majority of the class -- then start where they "are") Failing Part of the TAKS places the child in Tier 2

  Falling behind at the first six weeks benchmark test places the child in Tier 2 Falling behind at the semester benchmark test places the child in Tier 3
