Executive Summary

To evaluate and assess where our students are in relation to our Mission and our board-approved initiatives. The Arp High School Site Base Committee consists of parents, teachers, administrators and community members.  During the Arp High School Site-Base committee meetings all available data was reviewed to identify our strengths and weaknesses. Data was taken and discussed from the following:

  • results of parent, community, and teacher surveys
  • disaggregating of  AEIS data for the past 3 years
  • disaggregating of the current AEIS data
  • results of practice TAKS tests in the 4 core areas
  • Staff development needs surveys and requests
  • Student retention rates
  • Teacher retention rates
  • Prior year budgets/entitlements and expenditures in relation to this year’s funding and priorities
  • Needs defined through faculty meetings
  • Review of the district’s vision and minutes taken at the District Site-Base meeting

A needs assessment was developed by the Site Based Committee and it resulted in the following needs assessment information. The 2002-2003 school initiatives created for AHS by this committee are listed below.

* Teachers and students need to place a greater emphasis on reading, writing and oral language skills.

* Greater emphasis needs to be placed on character education.

* Greater emphasis needs to be placed on increasing the passage rate of African American students on standardized tests.

* Faculty should encourage more students to take the SAT/ACT tests and provide activities that will help them increase their scores.

*Benchmark testing will be done each six weeks in each core area.

* School employees and students should feel that they work in a positive climate that   is nurturing and safe.
