Handling the Dana:
 | Read & follow the "START HERE" Card
(in bag) BEFORE you
do anything with your Dana.
- Charge Dana for at least 6 hours. Light will
turn green.
- Calibrate Dana using the stylus and screen.
Press the on/off key to turn the Dana on. Follow the screen instructions
to calibrate the screen and stylus, then set the correct date and time.
Tap DONE when you are through.
- Install Dana Desktop Software on your
computer. Before connecting Dana to your computer, you MUST install the
Dana Desktop Software. (Keep the CD in your Dana bag when not in use.)
Your teacher will have to log on to the school computer before you can
load this software. You may wish to load the software on your teacher's
computer so that the teacher has access to your downloaded assignments.
The installation CD has a sticker with Install Dana Desktop Software
First. Put the Dana Software CD in the CD-ROM drive of your computer
and double click on the install icon. If prompted to do so, restart the
computer after installing the software.
- Synchronize information on your computer with
Dana. You must connect your Dana to the computer with the software using
the USB cable provided. Simultaneously press and hold down the
function and sync keys on your Dana. When
synchronization is finished, you'll see a message that the HotSync
operation is complete. "Hotsync" synchronizes information
and applications on your computer with Dana. Any software applications
that you installed in step 3 will now be copied to the Dana.
|
 | If carrying the Dana any distance (down the
hall, home, from class to class), always carry the Dana in its bag. |
 | Do NOT set anything ON TOP of the Dana bag (i.e.
books, backpack, purse, etc) |
 | Do NOT drink or eat while using the Dana. Most
handheld or laptops have been ruined by drinking a coke while working on
the device. DO NOT place beverages or hold beverages while working
on the Dana. |
 | Do NOT get the Dana wet. Do not spray anything
onto the Dana. If the screen is dirty, use a lightly damp cloth to gently
wipe the screen. |
 | Do NOT push on the screen or poke the screen
with fingers, pencils, or other items. |
 | Do NOT kink or put strain on any of
the cords or cables. Watch the gray connector to the network!!! That is
very easy to break. |
 | Users are to never leave the
technology tool unattended or anywhere where it
may be stolen, damaged by water or extreme heat/cold.Do
NOT subject your technology tools to extreme temperatures. Don't leave in
a hot car or freezing environment. |
 | Do NOT store your technology tools
unused for a long period of time. Humidity can corrupt the system in a
closed environment like a bag or closet. |
 | Require all
technology tools to be returned to the Technology Department at
least once a year for updating, inventory purposes,
and regular district maintenance. Danas must be
returned on the date designated by the Technology Department for this
maintenance (usually in May). |
 | Email any member of the technical
department if you are having technical difficulties
(tech@arpisd.org
) |
 | Report IMMEDIATELY
any damage to the technology or if it is stolen. We have warrantees that
may cover the technology tool, if it is reported in a timely manner. If
returned to the Tech Department broken and not reported. Damaged may be
charged to the student. |
Charging the Dana:
 | When the Dana is not in use, it should be
charging. You may charge the Dana in a classroom, but be sure that it is
in a safe place where no one will knock it off a table or place something
on top of it. |
 | The AC power adpator should be placed NEXT TO
the Dana in the Bag--NOT on top of the Dana. |
 |
 |
 | The power adaptor should be plugged into a surge
protector --NOT a wall plug. If you do not have a surge protector at home,
charge your Dana at school. |
Maximizing rechargeable battery life:
 | Dana's rechargeable battery works best when used
regularly. For maximum battery life and performance, fully chare the
battery using the provided AC adaptor (see picture above), then allow the
battery to discharge until the low battery warning message appears before
recharging the battery again. A new Dana, or one that has not been used in
several months, may need 3 to 5 charge/discharge cycles for the battery to
reach maximum capacity. |
Software for Dana:
 | Follow the directions carefully for loading the
software. It MUST be loaded on the computer first before you plug your
Dana into a computer. |
 | Select computers in your teachers classrooms to
load your Dana software on. Your Dana has a name (Dana 1, Dana 2, Dana 3,
etc.) Use this name when you load your software to identify your Dana on
the computer (profile) because other students may be using the same
computer to download (Hotsync) their Dana. Be careful when you Hotsync
that you select the correct Dana profile (DANA 1, DANA 2, etc.) |
 | Hotsync your Dana
at least once a day to keep it from "freezing" due to over extended memory
use. |
