Overview of District Technology Goals
 TECHNOLOGY IMPLEMENTATION:

  1. Faculty will use appropriate instructional strategies when implementing technology in the classroom.

  2. Documentation will be maintained by the faculty/staff member who is given technology for use during the year. Documentation will include educational use and all hardware & software updates & maintenance procedures. Any modifications to a system must be approved by a campus technology coordinator.

  3. Faculty/staff members will be required to maintain ethical and copyright standards in accordance with federal and state laws. No software will be loaded on a machine that has not been approved by a campus technology coordinator. Computer maintenance policies will be followed. See Maintenance Policies.   No video will be played in a classroom for pure entertainment value. Employees will not jeopardize the district for law suites with the entertainment industry. All instructional videos, and presentations will be shown using instructional strategies, questioning techniques, "what if" scenarios, or for some simulation purpose as stated in the lesson plan. At no time will a Hollywood movie or Disney cartoon be considered appropriate except when permission from the owner is obtained (examples: October Skies).

  4. All technology will be utilized for educational purposes (i.e. games or videos without clear TEKS objectives are not permitted at anytime and may result in the loss of privileges to technology.) If there will not be an independent or alternative assessment over software content, video, or Internet material then that material is probably not appropriate for the educational environment.

  5. Faculty will be responsible for making sure that classroom substitute teachers are advised that computers & videos will not be utilized by students unless specific written instructions have been left by the classroom teacher on proper/educational use of technology for a specific class period.

  6. Failure to document use or failure to use technology for ethical and educational purposes will result in the reassignment or relocation of technology (microscopes, calculators, computers, video equipment, etc.) and a reprimand in the personnel folder.
