National Ground Hogs Day -- Arp High School Students Participate in Career Shadowing Seven Arp High School seniors participated in the national observance of Groundhog Job Shadow Day, February 2. The event was organized locally by the Tyler Chamber of Commerce's "School-to-Work" Committee and the School-to-Careers Partnership which enabled students to shadow a workplace mentor as he or she goes through normal day on the job. The experience provided an up-close look at how the skills learned in school are put into action in the workplace. Amber Lewis said, "My experience was so interesting that I stayed past 5 p.m. watching a baseball game at Mike Carter Field with my mentor," a professional baseball scout. The seniors were: Brandy Brewster (Economic Development Council, Tyler Chamber of Commerce); Candace Sheffield and Jennifer Stuth (Mother Frances Hospital); Amber Lewis (Mike Carter Field); Ryan Weaver (Coca-Cola Bottling Company); Tiffany Wade (University of Texas Health Center); and Peter Riley (Assistant Superintendent, Tyler Independent School District) Pictured are: Dr. Joe Garrison, Assistant Superintendent, Tyler Independent School District with Arp senior, Peter Riley. |
