Fund 411 is the Tech Allotment from the state. Arp ISD matches those funds and places those matching dollars in Fund 164. Both funds are under the direction of the Tech Department. The Tech Dept completes a district-wide needs assessment based on the District and Campus Improvement Plans and Teacher Tech Surveys. NO Administrative computers are purchased from either of these funds.  These funds are used strictly for supporting INSTRUCTIONAL and student achievement purposes.  Campuses are given a supply funds budget associated with Fund 199. These funds are dedicated to cover printer cartridges and classroom printers (which are no longer supported or supplied by the Tech Department because these are considered “plug-n-playŕthrow away."  Administrative Offices are on a 3 year purchase rotation for computers and printers. They should remember to budget for 1/3 replacement for all computers each year and for any technology (servers, software, network printers) associated with their offices or departments.

From the combination Funds 411 & 164 the Tech Department pays for services from our ISP, SUPERNet, and network consultant services. The Tech Department also attempts to maintain a 3-5 year rotation replacement policy on district computers although it is not always possible or desirable to maintain this schedule. A percentage of this budget is also applied to updating memory, storage capacity, backup capacity, network management capabilities and new services (wireless, cameras, expansions.)  From the Teacher Surveys, network analysis software, parent input from CIP/DIP committees and from current technology trends research, we try to service all technology needs by giving everyone as many computers, technologies (probes, wireless, laptops, etc.) as they request.

When requests exceed about 25 computers, the Tech Director often presents to the board for a special appropriation or for additional services, labs, or servers. The board has not refused such requests in the last 15 years. Many other technologies are provided by grants (See Grants Page.Requests for replacements or additional labs are rotated between campuses from year to year and from campus to campus.

All Technology purchased from Funds 411 & 164 are usually coded for organization 999 in order to move computers when appropriately from one campus to another. Re-assignment of computers is almost a daily issue. When computers are taken out of classrooms for none use or upon the request of the teacher they receive the following procedures:

  • Cleaned and checked inside and out

  • Updated with memory, storage, software, peripherals, etc.

  • Evaluated for redeployment capabilities (What appropriate activities is this computer capable of doing? Examples: word processing versus full technology applications, Internet research, AR station, robotics programs, computer science programs, video application processing, counselor online form processing, etc.)

  • Redeployed for an appropriate application in a classroom or lab setting

By coding all instructional technologies in the Organization Code 999, redeployment is not hindered. Exceptions to this coding procedures are grant initiatives which must be cycled through their 3 year deployment in a specific area for a specific purpose.
