1. Overview of how Title I works a. The Federal Government provides funding to states each year. State educational agencies send the money to school districts based on the number of low-income families. The school utilizes the funds to meet the needs of the children of the campus.
a. Each school receiving Title I money must comply with certain federal regulations and/or guidelines including the 10 components of a Title I SW program which are as follows:
These 10 components are included in the District Improvement Plan and in each Campus Improvement Plan. These plans were developed jointly with the involvement of parent representatives. If you are interested in reading and/or reviewing the plans, please see the campus principal. b. Arp Independent School District uses the following assessments to measure student progress: i. The Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) in grades 3 – 11) or the State Developed Alternative Assessment (SDAA) II or the Locally Developed Alternative Assessment (LDAA) in Special Education grades 3 – 11. ii. The Texas Primary Reading Inventory (TPRI) in grades K – 2. iii. The Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) in grades 1 – 2 iv. The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) in grades K – 1 c. Arp Independent School District uses the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) as its curriculum.
i. Approximately 85% of those dollars were spent on salary and benefits in order to reduce class sizes, offer special programs, provide small group assistance, offer tutorials, etc. ii. Approximately 15% of these dollars were spent on supplies for materials for special programs and supplementary materials.
