The Gifted and Talented Students at the Junior High School have recently submitted five teams to compete in a contest sponsored by the U.S. Army. The contest is called eCybermission. The point of the contest is to motivate students’ interest in the fields of science, math and technology. The students had to create a “mission” that involved helping their school or their community. The five teams submitted projects on recycling, the negatives of caffeine for adults and children, road improvement in rural areas, light improvements for One Act Play, and the effects of loud music from MP3 players. The students created a hypothesis and then tested it using surveys and experimentation. The projects required many hours in and out of school. The teachers within the Junior High were wonderful to collaborate with the G/T sponsors and students. They helped by allowing the students time to work and by aiding them with surveys, grammar lessons and ideas. Because of their hard work and completion of these in-depth projects the eCybermission sponsors have invited the teams to participate in a tour of the West Point facilities in New York. The day is scheduled for the 18th of July. If the students were able to go it would be a life changing experience. TEAM MEMBERS: Kelsey Lassen Natasha Crouch Megan Campbell
